History - A Legend is Born


In 1986, Yamaha had already been working on outboard manufacturing for decades. The company had built up a comprehensive knowledge of its customers’ wants and needs in marine vehicles, and so it decided to work on a line of personal watercraft.

Enter the WaveRunner®. The legend, the icon, the original. With a design dedicated to comfort and performance - from the seated riding position to the open-stem design that oozed style - it was a nimble machine that found immediate fans with both novices and experienced PWC riders alike. 
 

Evolution 


After the release of the original model, the company worked to improve and develop its design, not satisfied to rest on its laurels. The company was, and still is, dedicated to providing the best and most fun products for its discerning customers. 

In the 1990s, the company continued to innovate its line of PWCs, leading to the FX 140 WaveRunner’s release in 2002. This machine was the first four-stroke engine machine on the watercraft market. With its smooth engine, gas-sipping fuel economy, and new hull design that focused on stability, the new model brought the WaveRunner® to an even greater level of performance, style, and fun. 

Further evolution in 2008 focused the company on lightweight design, as NanoXcel started to be used in the hull. This composite material is 35% lighter than earlier models, which helps these fun machines carve the waves with even greater agility. 
 
Today, the company is focused on continuous improvement and innovation in its PWC offerings, and the WaveRunner® remains an iconic model. There’s a reason you see so many of them on the lakes and beaches all around the world. These PWCs offer some of the best features on the market.
